Homeschooling Advocacy

In the News
NHELD, LLC is an acronym for National Home Education Legal Defense, a national organization that seeks to protect and defend the rights of families who wish to educate in freedom. In everyday use, we just call it "NHELD." Our organization is open to all who wish to join. We provide resources, information, consultation, and assistance for families across the country to protect their freedom.
  We look forward to partnering with you today.

Our values

When you subscribe to NHELD, you can expect the following values for all of the work we do. We are committed to our core principles for empowering you, so that, together, we will maintain our freedom to educate.
Freedom to educate
Parents have the inherent obligation and right to raise and educate their children in whatever manner they deem appropriate to best meet the needs of their children. To exercise that right, however, parents must have freedom from interference with that right. NHELD's goal is to work with all parents to make sure they are free to educate their children in the best way possible.
Empowerment of individuals
Simply put, the Declaration of Independence is the original source acknowledging our individual liberty, and empowering each of us to act in freedom. It acknowledged that the people are born with certain inalienable rights, among them life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; and that the people form their own government, precisely to protect those rights.

       The people set up our government by adopting the Constitution, which specifically limits the government's power, and protects the inherent rights of the people. NHELD's goal is to make sure that the people continue to be rightfully empowered.  Empowerment comes through knowledge of accurate facts about what the law actually says, and about how others propose to change the law in the future. NHELD is here to help share accurate facts and help us all gain more knowledge, and to help support parents in their endeavors to maintain freedom for themselves, and for their children.

Mission statement
One individual acting to retain freedom faces a daunting task. Many individuals acting to retain freedom face an achievable task, a task that has been accomplished in the past, and that must continue to be sustained in the future.  Our mission is to do all that is possible to retain that freedom of education.
Legal matters
It has been NHELD’s experience that most legal problems encountered by families who homeschool may be resolved without resorting to litigation or the adoption of new state or federal laws. Sometimes, however, attorneys may be needed to assist. In order for any attorney to provide legal advice, that attorney must be licensed to practice law in your state. In the months ahead, we will be establishing a network of attorneys to assist you in your local area, if necessary.

NHELD’S beliefs

NHELD does not believe in just directing families to act in unison on the basis of an opinion that NHELD has formed on its own. NHELD believes in empowering individuals to act in accordance with their own conscience and unique circumstances. NHELD believes in
(1) informing individuals about where to find proposed legislation, in its entirety;
(2) advising individuals not to take the word of anyone else about what the law says, but to read the original source documents for themselves to formulate their own opinion; and
(3) providing assistance, when requested, about how to protect the right to educate, how to affect legislation, or how to resolve other problems as they arise. NHELD does not believe in blindly following the word of anyone. NHELD believes in an informed, empowered citizenry, able to fight for, and to maintain, freedom effectively, whenever necessary. If you believe as we do, and want to help protect freedom for all of us, see below, and please become a member of NHELD today.
